My book clubs

I can’t remember the last time I wasn’t part of a book club. Everywhere I have lived I’ve always been a member of one. It’s an easy way to meet people in a new environment, it’s a reason to read, and to open my mind to genres that I would otherwise not choose.

Over the years, I have been involved in starting and participating in book clubs for:

FIGT – Families in Global Transition
IWAM – International Womens Association of Modena (Modena, Italy)
INC – International Newcomers Club (Madrid, Spain)

FIGT BOOK CLUB

I have been a member of Families in Global Transition since February 2024 and have enjoyed connecting with fellow TCK’s, global travellers, people working with TCK’s so much that I wanted to give back. Again, FIGT were on the look out for someone to run their very first global book club and I put my hand up.

Belonging to an international book club offers a unique and enriching experience. It’s about strengthening the global community, developing friendships and of course, learning about different cultures.
If you’re a Families in Global Transition member and are looking for a rewarding experience which will allow you connect with other FIGT book lovers, come and join us!

IWAM BOOK CLUB

When I moved to Modena, Italy in August 2020, I joined the International Women’s Association of Modena in order to meet other international women living in Modena. The association was looking for someone to start a book club and I jumped at the opportunity to do so.

I haven’t looked back since. I made new friends and became part of an amazing community of women.

Unfortunately, during Covid times, we only managed to meet once in person, in October, but the rest were successful Zoom gatherings.

The beauty of the book club is the wonderful mix of cultures, beliefs, and races. Therefore, each meeting involved discussions with different opinions and viewpoints, allowing us to open each other’s minds to different ways of thinking and embrace each other’s views.

Each month, after our group discussions on the monthly book of choice, I wrote an IWAM bookclub group opinion piece on what we all thought of the book.

INC BOOK CLUB

When I moved to Madrid, Spain, in August 2023, I joined the International Newcomers Club to meet other international women living in Madrid. I started a book club in the area I was living in as the association was looking to get one up and running, so I took on the role.

I decided to choose all the books upfront this time. I wanted to have a mix of genres ranging from memoir to historical fiction, non-fiction to short stories.
